Breakfast Donna Hay Style

I am loving this extra day off and to celebrate I am relaxing all day and decided to make myself a little egg breakfast inspired by Donna Hay. I had watched her video on her version of Caesar Salad and decided eggs for breakfast with a little fresh herbs from the garden sounded perfect. Hope you are enjoying your day off too!

No Spring Chicken

I had someone tell me this week that I am no longer a spring chicken! Funny and sad at the same time. The comment was made in reference to me running again and the calories I had burned (or not burned) when working out. She reminded me that my hay day was 5 years ago when I was able to run and run and not hurt and burn tons of calories. My June challenge might have been a bit more than I was anticipating. I was shooting for 3-4 good workouts a week to meet my goal but that might not be fisible.

You see, back in my "hay day" I used to go run or to the gym after work to unwind. What I did not take into account when setting up my next challenge was just how hard I used to work out. It would take me hours to unwind from my high-stress job and I would be at the gym for hours thus burning copious amounts of calories. As much as I really do like the gym, I don't want that to be my life! A friend told me that perhaps a distance challenge would be good and we could work from there. (I hate it when he is right.)

So, I am rethinking my June challenge, but will commit soon!

Fun Fact: The last time a Republican was president and was not from the state of Texas or California was Calvin Coolidge in 1923. Crazy!

June Challenge

Okay, so you might have noticed I have slacked about posting my monthly goals. Well that might be because I haven't really had any. Okay, for Lent I gave up sugar treats which was extremely hard and extremely easy at the same time. (Think about it.) Other than that I have not really set concrete goals for the month as I didn't know I would have the energy to complete them. Well May has flown by and should have been my back to basics month for me, but surprisingly it was still pretty busy and is just now slowing down.

So how did I come up with my June challenge you ask? Well last week was my last week of spin class until the Fall semester, pending the teacher, and so my workout routine, what little there was, is now up in the air. I said once spin was over I was going to start running again and it seems that time is now. The idea of running again sent me back in time to when I first started in 2006 and what changes I made in my life at the time. One of the tricks that motivated me was 1) competition with friends and family, and 2) a heart rate monitor. One of my friends also taught Jazzercise in her free time and told me it was a great investment. Well she was right. I used that to push myself and to track my progress. A few months ago my heart rate monitor said goodbye to me and I just never got around to replacing it. The last few weeks I have been thinking about running, challenges, and the lessons learned from the past. This morning I committed to buy a new heart rate monitor and it should be here byt Thursday this week. Now for the challenge.
As you are all well aware, one pound is equal to 3,500 calories. My challenge is to strap on that heart rate monitor and to go out and exercise and burn at least 3,500 calories in recorded workouts for the week. Now that could be 3 1/2 huge workouts in which I burn 1,000 calories at a time or seven smaller workouts where I burn 500 at a time. The point is to increase my calorie burn and challenge myself and track my progress. Now there is no point burning extra calories only to make up and consume them later so the background challenge is to maintain my eating habits if not improve them.

It is a lofty task but one I challenge to you to take. After all, the status quo takes you know where.

Well it is not Thursday

All week I have been a day ahead. Monday was automatically Tuesday and it just continued from there. Imagine my surprise last night while I was out with friends and realized I still had to get up in the morning and go to work. Now I love my job, but there is something about thinking it was Friday and then having to do it all over again. I have noticed I have a pattern or trying to hurry my life up I want things to happen on my time schedule and that is not always the case. In fact, it is usually not the case and I find myself constantly being tested for patience.

Currently I am house hunting and after being outbid on my favorite place in my favorite neighborhood I have found the same few months of looking exhausting. I find myself often questioning on whether or not I will have be able to find and purchase a place ever? I know, I sound pessimistic and I know I will be able to buy a place someday but I just want that perfect place and don't want to settle. Anyway, I guess I am just asking for prayer for patience or prayer that the place that is meant to be will be presented to me.
